THE BLOCK 2019 - THE OSLO HOTEL

Courtyard Week - Winners!

Our first experience working on The Block was for Courtyard Week in house 5 for Jesse and Mel. We were only asked on the Wednesday night of the week prior to courtyard week if we’d like to build a courtyard on The Block! No pressure!

The size of the courtyard was around 5x5m, which is the same as the Boutique Gardens we’d built 5 times at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, so we felt confident we could pull this off.

We teamed up with Melbourne Landscape Designer Lily from Sabo Design, and along with Jesse and Mel’s builders, Durance Construction, set about on building Lily’s beautiful design.

Due to scaffolding being in the courtyard until Friday at 1:30pm, we barely had any time to work, but thankfully were able to pre build some of the seating and planter boxes in our Geelong Shed during the week.

The end result is such a beautiful looking space, with the cushions from Inform Upholstery, Timber battens from Radial Timber, Pots from The Balcony Garden and dining table from Satara Living.

Scoring 29.5 out of 30 was beyond what we could’ve asked for but it was a great results for the hard work that went into the room, especially from Jesse and Mel, who among other roles, laid the Grafico mosaic tiled wall.

An amazing result to win the first room we’d been a part of on The Block 2019!

Rooftop terrace week - Not winners!

Rooftop terrace week was again, another huge challenge. Our terrace was used to store all of the other houses ballustrades before being installed, so we were again the last to start. Then on the final night, there was torrential rain from 7pm-11pm and we still had so much to do.

Luckily we persevered and complete the terrace to a high standard. This weeks room included two other rooms the contestants had to do, and the judges said that if they were judging on the rooftop only, it may have won again.

A great result again and a great design from Sabo Design
